My story
Dear Art lovers,
I am an Ottawa based visual artist. I go by the artist name ‘That Lazzzy artist’. I started painting at a very young age and soon realized that I quite enjoyed it.
From an early age, I was involved in many painting activities in school and community, and had earned a lot of appreciation for my work. After all, the skill had been passed on to me from my mother and grandmother who both are amazing artists. However, coming from a south Asian family, becoming a full-time artist was not quite acceptable and remained a side project. So it was nothing more than just a hobby and I went on to be a health care professional, which I am very proud of. I love helping people with physical disabilities. It gives me immense happiness.
My artist name has an interesting story behind it. I was initially considering ‘the dhongi’ artist. ‘Dhongi’ in Hindi street lingo means fake . My husband and my mom affectionately started calling me ‘the dhongi artist’ because every time I was supposed to paint, I would just roll over and nap. I found this name very amusing but when I started to rekindle my love for painting, it morphed into that lazy artist which was comical and seemed befitting.
The artistic side of me continues to be inspired by other artists, cinema and music. When I am not working, you will find me visiting art galleries and museums. I try to recreate the beautiful hues of nature in my art work. Some times my creativity is also fuelled by the abstract thoughts running through my head which have led me to create some of my favourite contemporary art pieces.
I continue to learn and create more art as I dwell in one of the beautiful neighbourhoods of Ottawa, Canada, where I sometimes paint live at music events and present my art work to the community here.
Yours truly,
That lazzzy Artist
